Default terrain distance

My girlfriend just got a new laptop and it handles most games great.
its a 2.66 core 2 duo, 2 gigs ram, 7200rpm HD, 256mb ATI x1400.

Everything looks great, but she tends to chop a lot, especially when outdoors and you can see for a LONG distance. I noticed in the graphics options there's no option for view distance. Does anyone know of a way that you can change the terrain or view distance? Like some ini file or anything you can edit?

What you reffer to is Level of Detail or LOD

It makes things up close look more detailed and scales down detail as it gets futher.

Now I'm not sure that there is a way of limiting how far you can see like some games can, but there is LOD enabled in guildwars. You can sometimes notice it by looking closely at the ground textures as you move forward.

You might try going into your Control Panel and then going into the control Panel of your video card. There is usually a section for custom video profiles and you might be able to set a more aggressive Level of Detail so that graphics start to degrade faster as they get further.
